We offer a range of tailored treatments that are safe for your lawn and the environment. Our programs are designed to promote sustainable growth, ensuring your lawn stays beautiful year-round.

All good lawn care programs are based around season specific lawn fertilisation and appropriate herbicide applications to control weeds.

At Lawnovate we make a minimum of five seasonal visits to your lawns where we will use a combination of organic fertilisers, bio-stimulants, wetting agents, iron and herbicides. Each of these products plays a distinct role in promoting a thriving, well-maintained lawn:

Organic Fertilisers:

  • Nutrient Supply: Organic fertilisers provide essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, but in a slower-release form compared to synthetic options. This means they feed the lawn over a longer period, promoting steady growth and reducing the risk of over-fertilisation.
  • Soil Health: Organic fertilisers improve the structure and microbial activity of the soil, helping to enhance its overall fertility. They often contain humus or compost, which improves soil aeration, water retention, and drainage.

Bio-stimulants:

  • Enhanced Root Growth: Bio-stimulants, such as seaweed extracts or humic acids, stimulate root development, which is essential for the overall health of the lawn. They can help lawns better absorb nutrients and water, especially during stressful conditions like drought or heat.
  • Stress Resistance: Bio-stimulants can help turfgrass resist environmental stresses, such as high temperatures, pest damage, or compaction. They promote healthier plants that are more resilient to these challenges.

Wetting Agents:

  • Improved Water Absorption: Wetting agents (or surfactants) help break down surface tension in water, allowing it to penetrate the soil more effectively. This is especially important in areas with hydrophobic (water-repellent) soils, where water tends to run off the surface rather than soak in.
  • Efficient Irrigation: By helping water penetrate evenly throughout the soil, wetting agents ensure that the lawn receives consistent moisture, reducing the need for excessive watering and preventing dry spots or overwatering.

Herbicides:

  • Weed Control: Herbicides are used to manage and eliminate unwanted weeds that compete with grass for water, nutrients, and sunlight. Lawn technicians use targeted herbicides to control specific weeds without harming the grass itself.
  • Prevention of Future Growth: Some herbicides are pre-emergent, meaning they prevent weed seeds from germinating, while others are post-emergent, designed to kill weeds that have already sprouted. This helps maintain a clean, healthy lawn.

Iron:

Strengthens Grass: Iron contributes to the overall health of grass by improving its resistance to stress and disease. It helps strengthen the cell walls and can encourage root development, making the lawn more resilient.

Corrects Iron Deficiency: If a lawn has an iron deficiency (which can lead to chlorosis, where the grass turns yellow while the veins remain green), applying iron can help correct the problem. This is especially common in soils that are alkaline, which can bind iron in a form that grass roots cannot absorb.

Enhances Turf Growth: Iron is an essential micronutrient that plays a role in photosynthesis. It helps the lawn utilize sunlight more efficiently, promoting better growth and health.

Helps Prevent Moss Growth: Iron can also help reduce moss growth on lawns. Moss thrives in lawns that are low in nutrients and have poor drainage. By applying iron, the pH levels in the soil can be adjusted, making it less favourable for moss and encouraging healthier grass growth.

Why Combine These Products?

Using an appropriate mixture of these treatments ensures a balanced approach to lawn care. They work synergistically to:

  • Maximize growth and health: The organic fertilizers provide nutrients, while bio-stimulants enhance root systems and resilience.
  • Maintain optimal moisture levels: Wetting agents ensure water is absorbed properly, even in difficult soil conditions.
  • Prevent and manage weeds: Herbicides control invasive weeds that could otherwise harm the grass.

Early Spring-Treating lawns in early spring helps promote healthy growth after winter dormancy. This is the ideal time to apply an appropriate fertiliser, as the soil is warming up, allowing grass to absorb nutrients efficiently.

We apply fertiliser with a higher nitrogen content to encourage lush, green growth. Early spring fertilisation also strengthens the grass, improves resistance to weeds, and sets the foundation for a thriving lawn throughout the year.

Late Spring-.During late spring, grass begins its active growing season. Treatments helps to provide essential nutrients, particularly nitrogen, which encourages healthy, lush growth. The grass needs a nutrient boost to establish itself and thrive through the summer.

Many weeds start germinating and growing in early spring, but they are often most vulnerable to control measures in late spring, before they reach maturity and set seeds. This is when their growth is still young, and herbicides are more effective in stopping them before they can spread.

Summer-Treating your lawns in the summer requires careful planning to ensure they get the nutrients they need without causing stress.

Summer can be a tough time for grass due to heat and drought so this is when we start to reduce the nitrogen and consider wetting agents. In the height of summer we will look to spot reduce weeds.

Autumn-Treatments in autumn encourages the grass to focus on developing strong roots, which is vital for surviving the winter. During the cooler months, grass growth slows down, but it continues to strengthen its root system, ensuring it can thrive again in spring.

The nutrients in autumn fertilisers, especially those rich in potassium, help improve the grass’s resistance to the cold and stress from winter conditions.

Moss tends to thrive in cooler, wetter conditions, which are typical in autumn. It's important to address it at this time to prevent it from spreading throughout the winter months when it can become harder to manage.

Winter-Treatments during the time encourages root growth without promoting excessive top growth, which can be vulnerable to frost. Healthy roots can survive the winter and prepare the grass to green up faster in spring. This is typically a slow-release or winter fertilizer high in potassium, which helps the grass prepare for the cold weather.

Moss tends to thrive in winter when conditions are cooler, wetter, and there’s less sunlight. Tackling moss during this time is essential.

Further services include aeration, scarification, top dressing and lawn levelling, our experts provide everything your lawn needs to thrive.

We use professional products to safely and effectively fertilise your lawns, tackle weeds & deter common lawn pests, such as leather jackets and chafer grubs.
